Course information:
This course offers an overview of the history of women artists in Catalonia during the 20th century. It is an approach to their artistic production, the difficulties they faced, and the spaces where they could exhibit their work, as well as their contributions to the country's visual culture. The difficulty in accessing institutional circuits, the exclusion of women from art academies, and resistance to a patriarchal society are some of the obstacles that artists have had to face over the centuries. But despite these challenges, many managed to break barriers and leave a profound mark on Catalan art.

Course instructor:
Vanessa Martín Nicolás, art historian and cultural manager
