"Singing in the Gitano style"
Niño de Elche pushes flamenco to its limit on a radical journey between memory and the avant-garde. One of the most unique voices in contemporary flamenco is that of Niño de Elche (Francisco Contreras. Elche, 1985), a heterodox artist with boundless creativity and a radically free perspective. An essential figure in the genre, he has explored it from every angle, to the point of defining himself as "ex-flamenco".
His latest project, "Cante a lo gitano," culminates a trilogy that began with "Memorial de cante en mis bodas de plata con el flamenco" (2021) and "Flamenco. Mausoleo de celebración, amor y muerte" (2022). This new installment offers a rereading of the legendary Manuel Torre, a master of flamenco from the early 20th century, through a unique voice that breaks molds and projects cante into the future.
