The cultural association Vespres Literaris organizes the presentation of the book 'El maqui que encara lluita' (Ara Llibres, 2025)
Event with the presence of the author, Enric García Jardí, and the presentation by Joan Francesc Sánchez.
Joan Busquets (Barcelona, 1928) is the maquis who still fights. He spent his childhood and youth among militants of the CNT and UGT, male and female workers from Barcelona committed to social change. He was a child when the war broke out, but as he grew up he became involved in the fight against Francoism. He joined the maquis at twenty years old, after having crossed the Pyrenees all alone at eighteen. The Francoist police arrested his group after a notable action in Terrassa, and he was sentenced to death. Finally, the judiciary commuted it to twenty years in Francoist prisons, from where he tried to escape on at least one occasion.
Joan Busquets is the last living witness of the struggle of the maquis: direct, from his own voice and of an impressive life. A life when your ideals are your engine.
