This year, SoPerifèric returns, a space dedicated to dialogue and shared critical reflection around experiences linked to ways of making, organizing, or living (from) music.
As could not be otherwise in the current crisis context, we have begun to question our own use of streaming platforms. AI-generated songs flood platforms and networks, and our listening contributes to financing wars and genocides. Besides leaving Spotify, can we rethink our way of "consuming" music? What are the alternatives for enjoying, creating, and sharing music in a world dominated by large tech companies? What role do artists play?
To talk about this topic, we will have three members of La Instrumental, an open process of organization and debate around music, driven by artists, listeners, and hackers, with the aim of creating and sharing tools and resources for the self-management of our communities. The space coordinates three interrelated projects: 1) The Spotify boycott, which gathers discontent with the capitalist model and Spotify's connections to the war machine. 2) The creation of a community music platform based on decentralization that maintains maximum artist sovereignty. 3) The organization of a consumer cooperative that allows rethinking how we relate and collectivize access to culture. La Birch, Marcel Costa, and Anna Vicent will accompany us representing each project.
We will also have Miquel Barceló, a member of the group Garrafa Nadal, which is part of the collective Punyeta Món, along with Nita, Saïm and Reïna, to survive the precarious world that is the music industry and the platforms derived from it.
