Lord of the Flies, Creation based on the novel by William Golding
Youth Workshop
In 1954, after the horror of the Second World War and in the midst of the Cold War, William Golding wrote this fable. A group of children and young people alone on a desert island, separated from a world in flames. We could consider it a foundational story of the order established after the barbarities of the first half of the 20th century. At the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, those barbarities no longer seem like a past story; they are what we see day by day on our screens: genocide and barbarism; bombs and misery. That is why we believe that Lord of the Flies speaks directly to us, in our present. And we have pulled the thread, creating one by one the scenes of our version of Lord of the Flies. It has been a journey, an adventure, an initiatory ritual, a sacrifice. Growing up means looking face to face at the world around us, and that, in 2026, is very scary. Deep in the jungle, when the darkest night falls, there is a mystery that looks into our eyes and makes us see the wild part of ourselves. Open your eyes and let the blood run through your veins to the rhythm of the jungle drums.
