The Jujol Centre – Can Negre is the most iconic building in Sant Joan Despí and one of the great examples of Catalan Modernism outside of Barcelona. Originally a 17th-century farmhouse, it was transformed between 1915 and 1930 by the architect Josep Maria Jujol, a collaborator of Antoni Gaudí, into a unique piece that combines imagination, symbolism, and surprising creative capacity.
The centre hosts exhibitions, cultural activities, and guided tours that explain Jujol's life and work, as well as the history of the city. With such unique elements as the undulating facade, the decorated tribune, the sculpted stairs, and the ceramic details, Can Negre is today a first-class cultural space and a symbol of Sant Joan Despí. Furthermore, it is a community outreach facility, open to associations and cultural activities throughout the year.
