Today is April 23, Sant Jordi's Day. A day in which the book is the true protagonist, along with roses, and which causes the country's streets to fill with people.
Throughout the day, in the different metropolitan cities there will be a real hustle and bustle of books, authors, signings, publishers and stalls loaded with books… From AMIC Cultura we want to celebrate this very significant date by offering you a list of 10 books from 10 publishers that escape the most commercial circuit and opt for a different model. That is, books that surely will not enter the bestseller list, which last year, for example, was led by Xavier Bosch and Xavier Sala i Martín. Some of the works we recommend are new releases for this Sant Jordi 2026.
1. La memòria de la terra (L’Avenç)
This collection of eleven stories, written by various authors, reflects on the relationship between people and the territory. The land appears there as a space that preserves memory, but that only acquires meaning when someone narrates it. The book highlights the fragility of memory and the importance of literature to preserve it.

2. M’estimaries si fos un cuc de (Descontrol)
Set in a futuristic Barcelona, this novel presents a sustainable and technological society. However, the protagonist feels an inner void that leads her to rethink what it means to be human. With humor and irony, it combines science fiction and emotional reflection. It is this year's Descontrol award. A few days ago, we spoke with the author, Laia Ruiz Mingote. You can read the article here.

3. El diari de Guillem Agulló (Sembra Llibres)
This graphic novel by Cèsar Martí and Daniel Olmo recovers the memory of Guillem Agulló through his diary and the gaze of his sister. The work connects past and present and highlights the fight against fascism and the need to keep historical memory alive.

4. La cinquena extinció (Indòmita)
On a planet about to disappear, a civilization tries to save the last living species. Through an adventure full of dangers, the book reflects on the climate crisis and the difficult decisions that preserving life entails. It is a work by Bernat Romaní.
