After two failed attempts, the Horta neighborhood of Barcelona finally has its own colla castellera.

The new popular culture entity was officially presented last April 29 in a multitudinous event held at the Centre Cívic Matas i Ramis, where neighbors, castellers, and a good part of Horta's associative fabric gathered. At the meeting, the constitution of the colla was celebrated as a symbol of the “organizational capacity of Horta” and the “renewal of its cultural fabric”.

“We missed an expression of Catalan culture in Horta,” comments Txema Subietas, the current president. Years ago, the colla had already been attempted to be constituted on two occasions, one in the early nineties and the other just before the pandemic. However, in both cases, the call was not successful. This time, however, the youngest members of the founding group launched a campaign through social media. As a result, the Colla Castellera d’Horta already has 90 founding members.

Currently, according to Subietas, they are talking with the District government to find a definitive rehearsal space.

It will not be until September that the new casteller collective will present itself to the public: it will raise the first pillar during the Festa Major d’Horta.
