The Night of Museums has become, year after year, one of the most popular cultural events on the calendar and a true classic. This Saturday, May 16, almost a hundred museums will open their doors between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. with special activities, concerts, guided tours, installations, and open doors, coinciding with International Museum Day.

But beyond the large facilities in Barcelona, where the large volume of visitors usually concentrates, there is also another Night of Museums: that of the lesser-known spaces, with fewer queues and an equally interesting program.

Local museums, heritage centers, and cultural spaces in the metropolitan area that often go more unnoticed, but which are very much worth discovering tonight. Below we propose ten spaces to enjoy a thoroughly interesting night.

Esplugues reclaims Gaudí's legacy

The Museums of Esplugues de Llobregat participate this year with a proposal linked to the Gaudí Year. Both Can Tinturé and La Rajoleta will host light and color installations inspired by the Gaudinian universe. In addition, between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., there will be TrencadíX, a dance, music, and stilts show at the La Rajoleta venue.

Can Negre and Jujol's universe

And still speaking of Gaudí, one can visit one of the most emblematic spaces of one of his great collaborators, the architect Josep Maria Jujol. This is the Jujol Center – Can Negre, which will open its doors with dramatized visits to discover the history of the building and its protagonists.

Engraving and collage art workshops will also be held, with prior reservation, as part of a program that aims to bring modernist heritage closer in a more participatory and alternative way.

L’Espai Corberó opens its doors

You've probably seen it in some advertisements. It is one of the most unique spaces we can find in our country, an architectural complex located in Esplugues de Llobregat created by the sculptor Xavier Corberó. It is one of the main attractions of the Night of Museums 2026 program. Visitors will be able to explore the outdoor spaces and discover this labyrinth of geometric and sculptural forms.

Cases Barates del Bon Pastor: working-class memory of Barcelona

One of the lesser-known venues of the Barcelona History Museum. It will offer open doors from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and guided tours of homes that explain the history of workers' housing in Barcelona during the 20th century through several restored houses in the Bon Pastor neighborhood, built in 1929. The exhibition Housing the Majorities. Barcelona 1860-2010. will also be open for visits.

Immersive heritage at Espai Moja

Espai Moja, one of the most unknown spaces in the center of Barcelona, offers an immersive experience dedicated to Catalan heritage with virtual reality, interactive resources, and audiovisual content. Located in the city center, it is a less common option within the Night of the Museums and combines heritage and new technologies. You can see images of La Patum de Berga or discover how to make a good bread with tomato, among other contents that allow a different reading of Catalan popular culture.

L'Hospitalet reinforces its program

In L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, facilities such as the Tecla Sala Art Center, the L'Hospitalet Museum, the Arranz-Bravo Foundation or TPK Art and Contemporary Thought, will also open their doors at night. In addition, they have prepared a special program around their spaces to enjoy an evening dedicated to culture.

A Roman domus in Badalona

Without leaving the housing theme, the Night of the Museums will also open the Casa de l'Heura, managed by the Badalona Museum. It is a Roman domus from the 1st century BC that preserves original remains such as pavements, wine deposits, and part of a Roman street. Furthermore, the rest of the spaces of Badalona Museums will also open their doors to enjoy a night full of culture.

Popular culture at the Casa dels Entremesos

The Casa dels Entremesos, located in Ciutat Vella, will offer dramatized visits to discover the figures and characters of Catalan popular culture: giants, beasts, dwarfs, and other traditional festive elements. Visits will take place at 8 p.m., 9:15 p.m., and 10:30 p.m., with prior reservation. A good moment to enjoy the mythical Gegants del Pi, without fear of them falling on you.

Castelldefels Castle debuts

This imposing building of Baix Llobregat will participate for the first time in the Night of the Museums with free admission between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. Visitors will be able to explore the gardens and discover this heritage space with views over the city and the Mediterranean Sea. A cultural facility that holds within its walls much history ready to be discovered.
