Few days are left for the Sagrada Família neighborhood to celebrate its Festa Major, which this year will begin on Friday, April 17 and will last until April 26. For more than a week, young and old will be able to enjoy a great variety of activities that will take place in the squares and streets of the neighborhood. Recreational, cultural, sports, and popular culture activities fill the program for this 2026.

This year's celebration is especially emotional, as it coincides with the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of the temple's architect, Antoni Gaudí, an essential figure not only regarding the identity of the neighborhood, but also of the city.

From the Festa Major commission, they have stressed that this year's program "vindicates the legacy of Gaudí". Likewise, they have reminded that it is necessary "to move towards a city model that places at the center the well-being of its male and female citizens, culture, and the quality of public space".

Visit to Gaudí's tomb

This Friday, those in charge of kicking off the festivities will be the popular culture groups of the Sagrada Família, who will star in a parade, which will start at 7 p.m. at the Ateneu El Poblet and will end its route at the Sagrada Família square, where the Festa Major proclamation will be held, by Jordi Faulí, the chief architect of the basilica. Finally, the youth night is planned in the same Sagrada Família square. The next day, the Fire Afternoon will be held with a children's correfoc, at 6 p.m. in the afternoon, by the Farfolletes and the Farfollot, and the Festa Major correfoc, at 8:30 p.m. in the evening.

On the occasion of the centenary of the architect's death, one of the most surprising activities of this edition's program are the guided visits to Gaudí's tomb and the crypt of the Sagrada Família, which will take place on Friday, April 24 at 5 p.m. in the afternoon and Saturday, April 25 at 12 p.m. in the morning. On the same April 25, the cheese cake contest will also be held on Nàpols street and the fun descent of contraptions on Lepant street.

All in all, the festivities will come to their end on Sunday, April 26, when the traditional farmers' market and the famous 'castellera' day will be held in front of the Sagrada Família temple, with the participation of the groups of the Sagrada Família, the Minyons de Terrassa and the Esperxats de l’Estany.

Poblet in extremis

The Youth Association Joves del Poblet, is one of the entities that gives life to these festivities. Beyond being present at the inaugural parade of the Festa Major, on Friday, April 17, they have also organized for that day Poblet in extremis, "the mythical bar crawl through their neighborhood", they will do it accompanied by the Atiliks Xaranga, which will energize the first night of the Festival. Upon finishing the route, the Sagrada Família square, starting at 10:30 p.m., will be the stage for a night of concerts.

Already for Saturday, also in the Sagrada Família square, there will be a youth concert, where different local emerging groups, will provide a soundtrack to a night full of party for the youth of the neighborhood, they will feature Los Duendes del Parke, RumbaySon de Gràcia, and Pd Bellakas. To close the party, they will also do Saturday, April 25, a toast for the neighborhood, in the Pablo Neruda square, with a beer tasting, tapas dinner, and DJs, with Pd Jennys, Pd Palike and Pd Pepo.

Beyond the youth programming, also stands out the Festa Major concert, which will be held this year in homage to John Coltrane, from 7 p.m. at the Auditori Joan Itxaso of the Ateneu El Poblet (c. Nàpols, 268). They will feature L’ABand de Sarrià, formed by 25 musicians and directed by Laure Vicedo.
