Who are the best emerging musicians in Barcelona? This question, surely difficult to answer, is the one that the students of EMAV (School of Audiovisual Media) have asked themselves in the last thirteen years through the SONOMAV, the music contest promoted as a school practice. Tomorrow, May 12, between 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., the final of the 13th edition takes place at Sala Razzmatazz in Barcelona, in Poblenou.

The project, coordinated entirely by students from the cycles of Realization, Lighting and Audiovisuals and Shows, is responsible for organizing and producing every year all phases of the competition: from the realization of the contest to the final event, passing through the galas and the selection process.

The initiative was born in 2014 and, since then, it has consolidated as a space to give visibility to young artistic creation and promote the exhibition of new musical projects. The contest is aimed at groups and soloists between 16 and 35 years old, with an original repertoire to perform live in a performance lasting between 30 and 40 minutes and with half of the songs being their own.

The three finalist proposals that will compete are, on the one hand, Duendes del Parke, band created in 2019 by Gemma Sainz and Nano Rabassa. After their passage through punk-hardcore, the group began a stage marked by the exploration of new sonorities and discourses. With roots in the Barcelona periphery, their music portrays the marginal realities that surround them and converts everyday experience into sound and protest material. Also performing will be DREW, emerging artist born in Barcelona who bets on a sound universe influenced by R&B, indie-pop and contemporary jazz. With her first EP, Nobody Knows, she presents an emotional journey that addresses insecurities, the fear of change and the social indifference that much of today's youth experiences. Finally, taking to the stage in Poblenou will be La Blanca Ofelia, punk band that has just released Electrical Vampire.

This year, the jury was formed by Nora Haddad Casadevall, a Sociology graduate and linked to the world of sound art, from where she investigates the relationship between listening and environment; José Luis Molero, a telecommunications engineer specialized in sound and a lecturer in music production; and Borja Duñó, editor-in-chief and Music editor at Time Out Barcelona since 2019.

With this new edition, SONOMAV reaffirms its commitment to emerging talent and to a young, diverse and committed music scene to its own creation.
