What would happen if Earth and Water met for tea? What would they talk about? What would make them feel anguish? What would make them feel happiness? What would they think of us, human beings? Would they be proud or ashamed?
“An Elementary Matter” is a play inspired by interviews conducted with people affected by environmental conflicts surrounding water and energy in Catalonia, who are active in various groups and social movements in their territories. The voices, silences, fears, and hopes of these defenders of the territory, environmental justice, and care for the planet are the starting point for this creation. Performed by two actresses who seek to bring current socio-ecological issues closer through comedy, poetry, irony, and reflection.
A creation that originates from doctoral research on climate change conducted at the University of Girona (UdG) and an artistic exploration of movements defending the territory, seeking to bring and process reflections from academia and social struggle through theatre.
By Cia. Nomeolvides, with actresses Maria Hera and Li Morenita. Co-organized with ProperESS, Comunalitat dels Barris Sant Andreu, and the Bon Pastor Civic Center.
