Nou Barris is preparing to host the second edition of the Festival and Short Film Contest on Youth and Mental Health, an initiative promoted by the Casal de Barri Trinitat Nova – SomLaPera, in collaboration with the Nou Barris District, the Public Health Agency of Barcelona and the Neighborhood Plan of the City Council.

New appointment with social cinema in Nou Barris

The festival is born with the aim of detecting needs related to mental health among the young population, expanding knowledge and offering responses and resources, while promoting audiovisual creation in the territory.

The project proposes to address youth mental health through short films made with mobile devices and other audiovisual formats, turning cinema into a tool for expression, awareness and community participation.

The contest is open to any individual, association or informal group from Barcelona, without age or nationality restrictions, although the creative process must be led by young people between 15 and 35 years old. The works must address the theme of mental health.

Up to five works per author can be submitted, with a minimum duration of 5 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes per short film. The pieces can have been made in any format (cinema, digital or analog video), but they must be submitted via a YouTube link in hidden mode, sending it to movie123ment@gmail.com or to cbtrinitatnova@bcn.cat or by delivering a pen-drive to the Casal de Barri Trinitat Nova- SomLaPera – c. Garbí number 3, 08033 of Trinitat Nova.

The short films should preferably be in Catalan or Spanish. Works in other languages will also be accepted, provided they are subtitled in Catalan or Spanish, or include a transcription of the dialogues in Catalan, Spanish.

The deadline for submitting short films will be from March 16 to October 12, 2026.

The festival activities will take place between April and November 30, with workshops and talks focused on the audiovisual world, artistic creation and youth mental health, organized jointly with the participating entities.

Regarding the awards, the works selected by a jury appointed by the organization will participate in a public exhibition and will be eligible for the competition's economic prizes. There will be special prizes reserved for the youngest age group (15 to 20 years old), as well as honorable mentions that will be decided by popular vote. The jury's decisions will be final.

The selected short films will become part of the competition's video library, and the organization reserves the right to use them for promotional purposes of the festival.
