The Barcelona City Council will formalize in the coming days the purchase of the premises of the Taller de Músics, the facility located on Raquesens street in the Raval neighborhood and dedicated for more than 40 years to musical training and activity. The operation, authorized by the Government Commission, aims to guarantee the continuity of the project and protect its uses in the strategic space where it is located. For now, the City Council has not detailed the amount of the acquisition.
The Councilor for Culture and Creative Industries, Xavier Marcé, highlighted that this purchase, in addition to allowing the consolidation of an essential project in the Raval neighborhood, "recognizes the historical role of the Taller in promoting the professionalization of many artists in the field of flamenco and jazz, among other musical genres."
Reference Center
In its four decades of activity, the Taller de Músics has become a reference music teaching center in Catalonia, and at the same time has become one of the fundamental agents for the improvement and social transformation of its immediate surroundings and the entire Ciutat Vella district. According to the council, the operation to purchase the premises is part of the municipal will to preserve this dual character and is a recognition of the important historical role of the Taller de Músics. With this initiative, the City Council wants to neutralize the risk that the premises will be put up for sale and that a fragmentation of ownership could occur, which could threaten the project.
In 1979, the Taller de Músics opened as a private center that offers musical education and higher studies, and also has a record label, a production space, and a jazz club.
A Talent Platform
From June 10 to July 10, the Taller de Música organizes the Talent Festival, which presents 28 concerts starring emerging artists in its 14th edition, reaffirming its role as a platform for promoting new generations of musicians linked to this prestigious music school.
The festival extends to Barcelona, Terrassa, Mataró, Reus, Sant Cugat del Vallès, and Cerdanyola, becoming a showcase for emerging creation and the sound diversity that defines the contemporary music scene.
