As every year, the city prepares to welcome summer with the celebration of the Sant Joan eve. On Tuesday, June 23, Cerdanyola will once again bring together tradition, popular culture, and civic coexistence around the Flama del Canigó, the bonfire, and the festive activities scheduled throughout the afternoon and night.
The Flama del Canigó, a symbol of brotherhood and cultural continuity, will arrive in the city thanks to the Centre d'Esports de Muntanya de Cerdanyola (CEM), which will be responsible for bringing it to the city after collecting it on its route to the different municipalities of the country.
Activities in Cerdanyola
The program will begin in the afternoon in Sant Ramon square with a family activity dedicated to the traditions of Sant Joan and a sardana dance. Subsequently, the square will host the reception of the bearers of the Flama del Canigó and the participating entities.
From 8 p.m., Francesc Layret square will become the setting for the arrival of the Flama, its delivery to the City Council, the reading of the Flama del Canigó message, a performance by the Colla Bastonera, and a sardana of brotherhood. Torches and lanterns lit with the flame will also be distributed. The celebration will continue with a parade to Xarau park, where the bonfire will be completed. The lighting will take place at 9:35 p.m. with the Flama del Canigó.
Xarau park will also be the meeting point for the traditional popular dinner, scheduled for 10 p.m., and for the eve dance, which will begin at 11 p.m. with the performance of the Orquestra Wanda. The period for reserving tables and chairs for the popular dinner has already opened.
The municipal eve, organized by the City Council and the Club d'Esports de Muntanya (CEM), will feature the collaboration of various city entities, such as the Fures i Diables de Cerdanyola, the Agrupació Sardanista de Cerdanyola, and the Colla Bastonera de Cerdanyola, keeping alive one of the most deeply rooted customs of the Catalan festive calendar.
