Taula per Mèxic celebrates 10 years weaving community, memory, peacebuilding and human rights defense from Barcelona

Barcelona, June 2026.

This year, Taula per Mèxic (TxM) celebrates ten years of collective work accompanying human rights defenders, journalists, and activists, building international solidarity networks, and generating spaces for memory, art, welcome, and resistance between Mexico and Europe. From Barcelona, and with presence and influence in spaces such as Brussels, Geneva, Luxembourg, and Strasbourg, TxM has contributed for a decade to building bridges between organizations, social movements, institutions, and communities on both sides of the Atlantic to strengthen the defense of human rights, global justice, and international solidarity.

Born in 2016 as an articulation between individuals and collectives committed to the defense of human rights and peacebuilding in Mexico and other territories affected by violence, TxM has consolidated itself as a meeting point for activism, political advocacy, protection for defenders and journalists, psychosocial support, culture, community, and international cooperation.

Throughout this decade, TxM has promoted temporary reception programs for human rights defenders and journalists at risk, accompanying 36 journalists and 17 defenders. Likewise, it has promoted processes of memory, denunciation, and international advocacy; cultural and artivist activities; training spaces; international solidarity campaigns; and collective actions aimed at making structural violence visible and strengthening support networks between Mexico and Europe.

In the field of research and knowledge production, TxM has produced 12 publications, including analysis, memory, and awareness materials such as reports, articles, compilations, and, more recently, the book Seguir contándolo, crónicas del programa Barcelona protege a periodistas de México (2025) by Sandra Vicente and Majo Siscar, a work that gathers testimonies and reflections on violence, resistance, and support for journalists at risk.

TxM has also consolidated itself as a reference interlocutor for various local, state, and European institutions, regularly participating in dialogue and advocacy spaces with bodies such as the Parliament of Catalonia, the Congress of Deputies, the European Parliament, the European Commission, and various international human rights protection mechanisms.

Through these actions, TxM has contributed to building bridges between organizations, social movements, institutions, and communities on both sides of the Atlantic, promoting international solidarity and the defense of human rights from a transnational perspective.

These ten years have been possible thanks to the participation of hundreds of people, organizations, artists, defenders, journalists, and communities who have contributed to building a living space of mutual support, critical reflection, and collective action. The celebration of this anniversary commemorates an organizational journey and recognizes the multiple voices, struggles, and affections that have made it possible to sustain this space over these years.

A party to celebrate ten years of shared resistances

Next Saturday, June 27, TxM will hold a major cultural and community event at Can Batlló (Barcelona) open to all citizens.

Throughout the day, activities for diverse audiences will be held, combining reflection, art, participation, and celebration, including popular circus, live music, editorial presentations, theater, dance, performance, artistic installations, DJ sessions, and the Artivist Talent Contest, an initiative that seeks to highlight projects committed to social transformation through artistic creation.

The event aims to become a meeting space for communities, organizations, artists, and people committed to the defense of human rights, global justice, feminisms, anti-racism, and the collective construction of alternatives.

TxM invites media, organizations, collectives, and allied individuals to accompany this celebration and continue strengthening networks of solidarity, memory, and human rights defense.

To celebrate these 10 years is to celebrate the networks we have collectively woven: people, organizations, artists, defenders, and communities that have accompanied and given meaning to this shared path.
