Museu Tàpies

A museum created by the artist himself, Antoni Tàpies, with the aim of promoting contemporary art. It mostly houses his works, but also organizes temporary exhibitions. It occupies a Modernist building, designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which will be easy for you to recognize thanks to the aluminum and steel sculpture that hovers over it, called "Núvol i Cadira", created by Tàpies.

The museum library is located in the former warehouse of the Editorial Montaner y Simón, from which the original shelves have been preserved. The Library specializes in modern and contemporary art. It houses the most extensive archive of Tàpies's work, as well as collections on Asian and pre-Columbian arts and culture, and African and Oceanic arts, which have been so important in the evolution of 20th-century art. Other subjects such as architecture, design, decorative arts, photography, cinema, and video are also represented. The initial core collection donated by Antoni Tàpies has been augmented with recent and historical publications, as well as videos and international magazines, which complete a constantly growing bibliographic collection
