Josep Janés, was a poet and editor, before the Civil War he collaborated in several Catalan newspapers in Barcelona. He founded the magazine Bandera (1930), in the Collblanc neighborhood of L’Hospitalet. Later he directed El Diario Mercantil (1932-1933), In 1934 he started the collection Quaderns literaris and during the war La Rosa dels Vents
In the Spanish Civil War he worked for the Culture Services at the Front. At the end of the conflict he was imprisoned in 1939 and subsequently released thanks to the endorsement of Eugeni d’Ors, with whom he had had a personal friendship. He had an extensive activity as a writer and as an entrepreneur, founding different publishing houses, the best known was Plaza & Janes, a business group that also expanded to Latin America, and that published numerous titles.
In his native city, there is a library that bears his name, in the neighborhood of Collblanc i la Torrassa, as well as a school. Figures like Josep Janés, are those who have managed thanks to their work to overcome disagreements, to generate a sense of community and belonging, with an open and inclusive mentality.
