The Sagrada Família will experience a very special celebration this Sunday, June 14, to commemorate two historic milestones: the culmination of the Tower of Jesus and the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death. Beyond Pope Leo XIV's visit to Catalonia, the temple has organized a display of Catalan popular culture with the participation of various "colles geganteres" (giant groups) from Barcelona and throughout the country.

The festive day will begin at 10 a.m. in front of Casa Batlló, on Passeig de Gràcia, where there will be a musical performance on the facade and various institutional speeches. At this point, the first section of a parade will begin, reaching the Sagrada Família temple. From here, the giants of Gràcia, of Vilassar de Mar, the giantess Crespinella, and the big-head of Gaudí will set off, symbolically kicking off the parade.

Giants related to Gaudí

Around 11 a.m., the procession is expected to arrive at Casa Milà, La Pedrera, where the celebration will expand to incorporate new figures. The Gaudí giant from Riudoms, the dwarfs Trenca, Dis, and Forjat, and also the warrior giants of La Pedrera will join, presenting a completely renovated image especially for this occasion. These giants are a tribute to Gaudí and will meet in Barcelona to celebrate the centenary of his death.

The entourage will continue advancing to Passeig de Sant Joan with Carrer de Rosselló, where at 12:30 p.m. there will be a change of protagonists. The giants of Gràcia and Vilassar de Mar will cede the spotlight to the giants of the City, of Pi, of Santa Maria del Mar, and of the Sagrada Família, who will join the final section of the parade.

Arrival at the Sagrada Família temple

Finally, at 1:15 p.m., the parade will arrive at the Nativity Façade of the Sagrada Família, where the final dances and closing speeches will take place. This moment will mark the end of a day that aims to combine solemnity, festivity, and tradition.

The celebration aims to highlight the "gegantera" tradition as a cultural expression rooted in the territory, while paying homage to Antoni Gaudí and his most emblematic work, the Sagrada Família. All in all, counting on the giants and big-heads, who for many are the best ambassadors the architect can have in an anniversary year and a milestone that is, entirely, gigantic.
