The headquarters of the Sant Martí District of Barcelona was this Monday the scene of the award ceremony for the 11th Premi Jove de Còmic Sant Martí per a la prevenció i erradicació de les violències masclistes. The event was attended by the District Councilor, David Escudé, and the company Impro Barcelona added a touch of humor to the event, during which a drawing by the artist Elizabeth Montero, who painted live, was raffled.
This year, 67 works had been submitted to the competition: 17 in category A (for young people aged 16 to 25), 48 in category B (for those under 16) and two in category C (fanzine), intended for educational centers, facilities and services for adolescents and young people.
The aim of the competition is to raise awareness among adolescents and young people about the phenomenon of sexist violence and to involve them in the fight for the eradication of gender discrimination and in the creation of new egalitarian non-sexist imaginaries through the language of comics, within the framework of the culture of peace and non-violence.
The Sant Martí Youth Comic Award is organized by the Sant Martí District with the support of the Department of Feminisms, Equality and Democratic Memory of the City Council and in collaboration with the Barcelona Libraries Consortium and the Council of Feminism, Equality and LGTBI of the District. It also has the collaboration of the Joso School – Center for Comics and Visual Arts, Norma Editorial, the publishers Finestres and Tigre de paper, the Trama SCCL Cooperative, Ficomic (Federation of Professional Comic Institutions) and the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (CCCB).
