El Maldà premieres this July Consulta familiar, Marga Arrom's new comedy. Directed by Alba Collado, it explores different crazy situations to address issues such as family relationships, couple models, and female sexuality beyond stereotypes.
The show, performed by Núria Cuyàs, Laura Pau, and Annabel Totusaus, is part of the Grec Festival de Barcelona 2026 program.
Trying to understand her mother
The story begins with Sílvia, a woman who has been trying to understand her mother for years. Family gatherings are marked by uncomfortable comments, reproaches, and recurring questions about her romantic life. With Christmas approaching, she decides to seek help in a therapeutic consultation. What was supposed to be a space to talk about her problems, however, ends up becoming a mess when the lives of the patient, the therapist, and the mother unexpectedly intertwine.
From this point on, everything is a succession of misunderstandings, secrets, and confessions that force the characters to face conversations they had been avoiding for a long time. With different musical moments, the play focuses on the need to stop judging others and on the expectations that are often projected onto mothers, daughters, and partners.
Female desire
One of the main axes of the play is the view we have on female desire in the different stages of life. The director, Alba Collado, says that "little has been said about the fact that adult and older women also have desires, contradictions, and fantasies," a reality that the play wants to incorporate naturally and with humor.
Consulta familiar can only be seen for 4 days, from July 27 to 30, but it will be in charge of starting El Maldà's new season and will be on display from September 2 to October 4.
Duet of women at the helm
The piece is written by Marga Arrom (winner of the X Playwriting Tournament of the Balearic Islands with Sa planta i es forat and semifinalist in the IV Playwriting Tournament of Temporada Alta) and directed by Alba Collado, who already has several productions in theaters such as Tantarantana, Centre de les Arts Lliures or Teatre Gaudí, among others. The set design is by Enric Romaní and the costumes by Maria Albadalejo.
