The Tibidabo Automata Museum is one of Barcelona's most unique heritage gems. Located within the Tibidabo Amusement Park, this space is dedicated to the conservation and exhibition of automata and moving models that allow visitors to discover what entertainment was like before the arrival of modern technologies.

The collection brings together more than 40 pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries from various countries around the world. Automatic figures, miniature scenes, and surprising mechanisms are part of a journey that combines history, art, and engineering. Thanks to their gears, levers, and movement systems, these pieces continue to captivate visitors of all ages.

Historical pieces and unique automata

Among the most notable automata is the Mandolinist Clown, a piece dated 1880, which is the oldest in the collection. This automaton is an exceptional example of the mechanical precision and creativity of the manufacturers of the time.

The collection also includes more contemporary pieces, such as The Gaüs brothers or the balance of the world, created in 2005 by Lluís Ribas, the museum's conservator. This work demonstrates that the art of automata remains alive and evolving, maintaining the essence of a heritage that has fascinated generations.

A space with more than a century of history

The museum opened its doors as its own space in 1982, when the automata and models that had until then been scattered throughout different areas of the park were brought together in a single enclosure. The facility occupies the old Tibidabo theater, a building constructed in 1909 that is part of the park's centenary history.

The visit allows one to understand the functioning of the mechanisms that give life to the figures, based on gear systems and repetitive movements that were a true revolution in the world of popular entertainment.

A jewel of Barcelona's heritage

The Tibidabo Automata Museum is included in the Barcelona Museum Catalog. Its collection constitutes an exceptional testimony of an era when mechanics was one of the main tools for creating shows and surprising the public.

Today, visiting this space steeped in history is to discover a place that preserves a unique and unrepeatable heritage, where history, technology, and imagination are combined. An essential visit to learn how, long before screens and digital devices, automata were already capable of making young and old dream.

All in all, in a space, the Tibidabo Amusement Park, which is one of the oldest in the world. You can consult all the information regarding this space here.
