The Mobile Social Congress 2026 will celebrate its 11th edition on March 4, 5, and 6 in Barcelona, with activities at Canòdrom, Nau Bostik, and online. Under the slogan "Descolonitzem la tecnologia", the MSC returns to be a meeting, reflection, and critical debate space to question the dominant technological model and put people, territories, and collective struggles at the center.
In a context marked by the expansion of Big Tech, extractivism and the accelerated digitalization of all areas of life, the Mobile Social Congress proposes to look at technology from a decolonial, anti-racist, feminist and eco-social perspective, connecting local and global realities.
Digital colonialism, extractivism and community resistances
This edition will address digital colonialism from different angles. It will feature the testimony of people defending territories affected by mining and the plunder of natural resources linked to the production of electronics, making visible the real impact that our technological consumption has on communities in the Sud Global.
It will also be explored how to think and build a decolonial, anti-racist and feminist artificial intelligence, questioning the biases, power relations and imaginaries that many current technologies reproduce.
Another central axis will be the analysis of the impacts of the implementation of large data centers: energy and water consumption, land use, and decision-making without community participation. The program will bring into dialogue projects in Catalonia with resistance processes in other territories where data centers are already a consolidated reality.
Finally, the MSC 2026 will open the debate on the contradictions of an energy transition model that is being carried out in Europe, based on this plunder of essential minerals that are found mostly in countries of the Global South, as well as on the need to weave community and decolonial resistances against the growing power of large technology corporations.
The Mobile Social Congress is an open space for social movements, entities, activists, professionals, students, and all people interested in rethinking the role of technology in our lives.
