Despinçats is a young cooperative entity founded in Sant Joan Despí in May 2023 with a clear mission: to generate spaces for youth participation and activity, while simultaneously opening popular culture to all citizens. The project arises from the perception of a lack of youth offerings in the city and the desire to create a vibrant, cohesive community with its own initiative. The entity operates with self-management and is financed mainly through member fees and the activities it organizes, without dependence on public subsidies.
Its calendar includes a wide variety of proposals: talks, workshops, debates, concerts, gastronomic and sports activities, as well as collaborations with other local entities. Among the most notable initiatives are the alternative festival for the Festa Major, designed to meet the demands of young people; the "correbars" (bar crawl), which mobilizes bars and participants through a festive route around the city; and its participation in solidarity events such as the "bocata quilomètric" (kilometer-long sandwich), where businesses and organizations transform Rambla Jujol into a large collective sandwich.
Despinçats aims to become a benchmark for young people in Sant Joan Despí and the Baix Llobregat region, promoting a social network that strengthens the community fabric. The organization invites people to become members or simply participate in activities, consume at the bars, or purchase their merchandise. Weekly meetings take place every Tuesday at the Sala del Foment Cultural i Artístic.
His message to the citizens is twofold: a call to all young people seeking activity and leisure outside the municipality to know that there is a space for them in Sant Joan Despí, and an invitation to all those who feel young at heart and want to get involved in community life. Despinçats argues that building a community is a shared task and that, even in a quiet city, there is always room to spark some festivity.
