The El Sortidor Civic Center is a public sociocultural facility located in the northern part of the Poble-sec neighborhood, in the square of the same name. Over the years, it has become an emblematic space in the neighborhood.
The center offers an annual program of cultural activities, children's shows, itineraries, and training workshops in different areas, with a proposal that seeks to reflect the cultural life of the territory.
A benchmark for gastronomy as a cultural expression
One of the distinguishing features of the El Sortidor Civic Center is its specialization in the links between culture and gastronomy. For those who understand food as a cultural expression, the center offers a meeting space around cooking and gastronomic traditions.
In this area, A Taula! Culture and Gastronomy Cycle stands out, a unique project that has become a benchmark for those who enjoy gastronomy as a cultural fact. This program offers various workshops and activities related to the gastronomic world, complementing the usual offer of cooking workshops held at the center. The initiative turns gastronomy into a starting point for sharing knowledge, experiences, and culture.
Beyond its gastronomic program, this Barcelona civic center is also a meeting point for various entities, including the "colla gegantera" (giant-carrying group), which stores its giants there.
Social and community services for the neighborhood
The facility also hosts various social and community services. Among these is the Socioeconomic Response Network (XARSE), which offers advice and support in processing economic aid and administrative procedures, especially electronic procedures. This service is organized by the Neighborhood Plan and Barcelona Activa.
We also find Konsulta’m, a psychological support service aimed at adolescents and young people to preventively detect and address psychological distress and mental health problems in youth; Treball als Barris (Work in the Neighborhoods), a job search space and monographic workshops within a socio-labor insertion itinerary; and Radars, a prevention and community action network aimed at accompanying people over 65 and alleviating the effects of unwanted loneliness.
The center also hosts the Women's Information and Support Points (PIAD), public, free, and confidential services that offer information, advice, and guidance to women in different areas, as well as psychological care and legal advice.
With a diverse program and a clear community vocation, the El Sortidor Civic Center offers a space open to culture, participation, and life in Poble-sec.
