Next June 14, from 12 to 4 p.m., Bar Casi in Barcelona will host the first edition of La Porronada, a new cultural and gastronomic event born with the aim of reclaiming the porró (traditional glass pitcher), bar culture, and popular Catalan traditions.
According to the organization led by Edu Bigorra, under the name El Golafre, the initiative aims to "put the porró back at the center of the table" and become the starting point of a movement that seeks to create tradition around this characteristic element of Catalan culture. The event will also serve as the kick-off for the Lliga del Porró (Porró League), a proposal that champions the bar as a "residence space for Catalan culture."
First stop of the Lliga del Porró
The first stop of this project will be at Bar Casi, which the organizers define as "luxury hosts." There, attendees will be able to enjoy a day that will combine gastronomy, music, and competition for a price of 13 euros.
The planned meal maintains a distinctly popular and traditional character. The menu includes vermouth, fideus a la cassola (casserole noodles), and nougat ice cream with ratafia. However, the main protagonist of the day will be the porró drinking contest, which will take place in different formats.
On one hand, there will be a direct elimination tournament in a 1-on-1 format. In this modality, participants will face each other, and victory will go to whoever can hold out longer drinking from the porró. Simultaneously, a filigree competition will also be held, in which the best trick or skill when drinking with this traditional vessel will be awarded.
Music, prizes, and good atmosphere
The prizes for the winners will consist of a meal at Bar Casi and a bottle of ratafia, thanks to the collaboration of Licores Primo, which participates in the event.
Music will also be part of the proposal. During the day, El Batalla and Roger Mir will perform, in charge of providing the soundtrack to a gathering that aspires to become a celebration of popular Catalan culture from the neighborhood.
Places are limited, and tickets are already available. With this first edition, La Porronada is presented as a festive gathering that combines gastronomy, music, and tradition around an object as everyday as it is symbolic. As its promoters summarize, it is an event especially designed for those who consider themselves authentic "Ronaldinhos of the porró."
