The Poble-sec neighborhood of Barcelona has been celebrating its main festival since last Saturday, which will last until July 26. Among this year's program, a new edition of the Espardenyu FolkFest stands out, a festival promoted by the Esbart Dansaire Renaixença that vindicates traditional dance as a meeting point between cultures. The festival will take place this Friday 24 and Saturday 25 and includes exhibitions of Catalan and international folklore, participatory workshops, family activities, music and coexistence spaces open to all audiences.
The program will begin on Friday at Plaça del Sortidor. At 7:30 p.m., the festival will bring together the Ballet de Déu de Ribes de Freser (Esbart Eudald Coma), the Ecuadorian group Saihua and the Tafallako Dantza Taldea from Tafalla (Navarra). At 9:30 p.m. there will be a musical bingo followed by a children's and family mini-disco, while the day will close at 11:30 p.m. with DJ Ana Koreana's session.
The next day, Saturday, July 25, activities will begin at Blasco de Garay street, 55. At 10:30 a.m., the family game Missió L’Espardenyu! will be held, a route of popular games and workshops with challenges designed for the little ones. At 12:30 p.m. it will be the turn of the workshop Dancing traditions: Catalonia and Navarra, dedicated to popular and traditional dance.
In the afternoon, Plaça del Sortidor will host a new dance show at 7:30 p.m. with the Tafallako Dantza Taldea and the Esbart Dansaire Renaixença. Afterwards, the activities will move again to Blasco de Garay street, 55, where at 9:45 p.m. the Sopar de Germanor (Brotherhood Dinner) will take place, with a price of 3 euros and with prior chair reservation. The party will continue with a musical bingo at 11 p.m. and will end at 00 a.m. with DJ PlaysKull's session.
About the entity and the festival
The Espardenyu FolkFest was born with the aim of highlighting traditional dances from around the world, fostering cultural exchange and bringing intangible heritage closer to all citizens through a participatory and intergenerational program.
It is one of the main festivities of the Esbart Dansaire Renaixença, founded on January 7, 1988, in the Poble-sec neighborhood of Barcelona. The entity works to preserve, disseminate, and keep traditional Catalan dance alive. With great cultural and pedagogical activity, they participate in popular culture events and festivals everywhere, sharing their heritage with audiences of all ages.
