L'Hospitalet de Llobregat hosts today, Thursday, June 18, starting at 8 PM, with free admission, a cultural proposal that has consolidated itself as a prominent event in the city's cultural calendar and marks the start of summer. It is the closing of the season for the Can Sumarro Library Opera Club.

Under the title L’òpera, la sarsuela i les seves heroïnes, també de Festa Major!, the activity, which will take place in the library gardens, will combine a colloquium and live musical performances with fragments of operas and zarzuelas interpreted in a format that seeks to reinforce the emotional experience of music. The audience will play an active role, as a didactic journey is proposed where the interpretative difficulties and nuances of each piece will be discovered in a guided manner.

The session will be led by Jordi Pujal, who for the third consecutive year proposes a participatory and informative way to close the club's season. Overall, the initiative brings lyrical music closer to all audiences, without the need for prior knowledge.

Bringing opera to everyone

Among the selected works will be emblematic titles such as Tosca, Così fan tutte, or Cançó d’amor i de guerra, among others. The common thread will revolve around the heroines of opera and zarzuela, central figures of the lyrical repertoire that have marked the history of these genres. With this closing event, the Hospitalet Opera Club puts an end to the season.

The activity is part of the events of the Main Festival of the Centre neighborhood. You can find the full program here.

An Opera Club for L'Hospitalet

The Can Sumarro Opera Club is a space that every year, since 2021, brings together about thirty opera enthusiasts who meet every second Thursday of the month at the Can Sumarro Library, in the Centre neighborhood, to reflect on the different works programmed by the Gran Teatre del Liceu. They do so under the baton of cultural popularizer, Jordi Pujal, who has energized the group since this adventure began.

This initiative, called LiceuBib, stems from a collaboration between the Department of Culture of the Generalitat and the Liceu to disseminate and bring the world of opera and its great works closer to the public of public libraries.
