Next May 29, the curtain of the Teatre La Colmena of Santa Coloma de Gramenet will rise to perform the last play of the dramaturgy season of the scenic space. It is Paulina Buxareu, an adaptation of the first novel written by Josep Maria de Sagarra, which deals with bourgeois love at the beginning of the 20th century.

A gag about love and singlehood, with touches of comedy of the absurd. The plot falls on the protagonist who gives her name to the title of this work. A woman belonging to the Barcelona bourgeoisie, who is already forty years old, who has no husband and who falls into the obsession of being a matchmaker, or marriage broker. “I believe it is the first time this story is performed in a theater hall”, explains Joan Fernández, director of La Colmena, about this comedy of entanglements and relationships. Always faithful to its style, La Colmena will turn the plot into a satirical tone.

La Colmena has wanted to reclaim the figure of the author, in an adaptation of his novel. Josep Maria de Sagarra (1894-1961) was a Barcelona writer, playwright and poet, very rooted in Santa Coloma, where he spent his summers with his family. In fact, the name of the municipal theater also bears his name: the Teatre Sagarra.

The La Colmena space will perform the show this weekend, and until June 14, on Fridays and Saturdays, at 8 p.m., and on Sundays, at 7 p.m. To purchase tickets, more information at the contact number on its website.

According to the director, during the stable programming, the space has filled 90% of its capacity in all performances, being great successes Santa Comèdia, which recovered the tradition of spoken dances, and Mínim, with Carro de Baco.
