And what if the true act of bravery was not to be silent, but to dare to show the wound? This is precisely what artist Neus Avilés (Badalona, 2002) proposes in The Weight of Silence, an exhibition that can be seen until July 30 at the Lluïsa Franch Room of Cotxeres-Casinet, in the Sants neighborhood of Barcelona, and which is a visual journey where cast aluminum and encapsulated pieces dialogue with fragility. An intimate exhibition that transforms emotional exhaustion into a starting point for rebuilding from scratch.
Avilés is an architect and visual artist and is the winner of the 18th ArtJove Contest, an initiative organized by Cotxeres-Casinet to promote talent and foster creativity among young creators.
The exhibition allows a journey through various works and pieces by this artist, who express themselves with a very singular delicacy and strength. The project is born from a reflection on the exhaustion of holding a metaphorical steel shield against the world. The artist, therefore, questions the need to hide weaknesses behind a false appearance of well-being. As she says, giving form to anguish does not represent an end, but a turning point: the transformation of the fall into a necessary reconstruction that allows the gesture to recover its transparency and calm.
Apart from this work, Avilés's work always explores figurative expression from abstraction. She works mainly through techniques such as resin encapsulation and metal casting.
