Many cockroaches are seen on the street, but not so many that play rock. Panerola is a band formed by four neighbors and musicians from Baix Llobregat and a singer from Maresme, specifically from Premià de Mar, who rehearse every week at La Capsa del Prat.
The group has just released Guiri bomba, a song that, as the singer says, is an "explosive to blow up cities". With black humor as their flag, the band is characterized by witty lyrics. "We play to enjoy and laugh, for us it's a game. The critical component is a consequence. We don't want to write lyrics that are political pamphlets, we contribute our grain of sand in how we do things and the projects we participate in. It's more about doing than saying," comments Pau, the singer.
The band, which played this Saturday at the Heliogàbal venue in Gràcia, during the presentation of the Gafarock festival, is formed by Borja on drums, Xavi on keyboard, Fran on bass, Jordi on guitar and Pau on vocals. The group was born more or less a year ago from the formation Yo te quiero infinito, a tribute band to The Clash's London Calling. They wanted to make the leap to doing their own songs and gradually incorporated musicians until the current formation of Panerola was born. You can listen to them here
As the musicians of Panerola express, Guiri bomba is born from a specific feeling: "Gentrification does not inspire, it suffocates." The song talks about the daily life of the group members or, as they say, "a place that is no longer for living, it is for visiting." Faced with the panorama the city is experiencing, the Panerola members opt for another path: "We choose our nihilistic proposal, we blow everything up and go down to the sewers to shake our hips with the cockroaches, eternal survivors of human destruction, although yes, they are disgusting as hell."
The city of Barcelona has also inspired the group to create another song, Ronda de Dalt, which will be released on September 1st, just before the concerts they will perform at the Festa Major de la Bordeta (September 3rd on Jocs Florals street, in Barcelona) and at La Capsa del Prat (September 4th). "Since I come from Premià de Mar and we rehearse at La Capsa, this means that every Monday I spend a lot of time stuck in traffic on the ring roads, and that's why we're releasing a song that talks about that, to channel the rage of getting stuck in traffic," comments the band's singer.
