The Festa Major of Poble-sec, in Barcelona, will experience its final stretch this coming weekend. Albareda street, between Palaudàries and Puig i Xoriguer, will be dressed up for the party with different activities organized by the Llar Pere Barnés (Arrels Foundation) and the Albareda Cultural Center. Admission is free.
The celebration will start at 6 p.m. with a snack for everyone courtesy of the Llar Pere Barnés and, immediately after, the public will be able to enjoy the recording of Ràdio-actius, which will broadcast a special live program for the Festa Major. Meanwhile, there will be a bar service courtesy of the Aliança Monstruosa. At 7 p.m. it will be time for karaoke with Fluorita, the drag queen identity of Estel Boada with her irreverent style that turns every song into a collective party. The event is open to neighbors, curious people, professional singers and, even, as the organization says, for proud off-key singers.
At 8 p.m. Iriex will perform, a concert with a band that comes loaded with self-parodic humor that collects the tradition of the songs of El Molino, Guillermina Motta, the most sentimental songs of Bola de Nieve or Jaume Sisa. The musician updates them with layers of crazy electronics, autotune, corridos tumbados and imaginary Caribbean music. His concerts are called Iriexada popular because they are a ritual of collective celebration where the public stops being a spectator to make the song their own. The singer-songwriter advises bringing an instrument from home to join this multitudinous band to sing with the songbook in hand. Irieix is the author of Cuques i feres, created for the Christmas campaign of the Barcelona City Council.
