The musical collective Gràcia Territori Sonor (GTS) presents this Saturday, July 25, the result of the fifteenth edition of Microtopies, the international call for sound miniatures which, this year, has had more participation than ever. To celebrate, the group has organized a vermouth open to the public at La Barraqueta, in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona (Tordera street, 30), where all the works can be heard and the day shared with some of the project participants. Sound miniatures are experimental musical or sound pieces less than one minute long.
The call has received a total of 141 pieces from 103 cities in 35 countries across five continents. According to GTS, this edition has surpassed by fifty the maximum number of participants registered so far, consolidating the project as one of the most unique proposals in the field of experimental sound creation.
Since its creation, Microtopies has been weaving an international community of creators, sound artists, researchers, and people interested in listening to the territory through short pieces that offer personal views on diverse spaces, landscapes, and contexts. Year after year, the initiative has expanded its geographical reach and the diversity of participants, becoming a global network that connects very different sensibilities through sound.
Although the results of the call are already on the Bandcamp channel of Gràcia Territori Sonor, the collective wanted to transfer this experience to a shared space. Saturday's event will begin at 11:30 AM at La Barraqueta. Attendees will hear the sounds for almost two and a half hours of sound miniatures that make up this edition, in a session designed for both participants and anyone curious about artistic practices linked to sound.
Beyond the presentation of the results, the gathering also aims to be a space for celebration and meeting among the members of this international community. The vermouth format invites sharing impressions, conversing with some of the authors of the pieces, and discovering the diversity of proposals that have arrived from very different parts of the planet. In this sense, GTS highlights that the project continues to demonstrate the capacity of sound language to generate links between seemingly distant territories and cultures.
The activity is free and open to everyone. With this new edition of Microtopies, Gràcia Territori Sonor reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting shared spaces for musical creation and experimentation, while consolidating an initiative that, fifteen editions later, continues to grow and expand its international projection.
