In 1949, Bodega Pàdua opened its doors, a place that is still a benchmark for Catalan cuisine in the Farró neighborhood, in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. Located at number 93 Pàdua Street, the bodega first opened as a warehouse. The business provided home delivery services and distributed wines and distilled beverages among the residents of this neighborhood and a good part of the upper area of Barcelona.
Later, it incorporated bar and cafeteria service. Later, due to its success, other corners of the premises were enabled to provide more space for customers. The next step was to open a kitchen that they still maintain.
After 77 years, the bodega offers a midday menu from Monday to Saturday with Catalan dishes such as cod, baked rice, paella, fideuà or snails. They also have a menu that includes tapas, salads, fried eggs and hamburgers.
First Homemade Recipe Contest
These days, Bodega Pàdua is in the midst of its Homemade Recipe Contest, an event that aims to be a tribute to Ton Márquez Alier, a friend of the establishment and resident of the Farró neighborhood who recently passed away. For this reason, the bodega has proposed sharing the homemade recipes of the neighbors that tell stories, memories and neighborhood life.
If you want to participate, you have until July 20 to submit the recipe, and it must include the ingredients, the preparation, and a brief explanation of why it is special to you. The six finalist recipes will be exhibited at Bodega Pàdua from July 27, and the winner will be announced on September 5 during the Farró festivities. The first prize will be 150 euros.
