Just a few weeks ago, through Instagram, the creation of a new cultural collective in the city of Barcelona was announced. They are the Amalgama, and they already have scheduled their first event. It will be next April 25, from 6 PM to 3 AM, at L’Occulta del Raval (Carrer de Vistalegre, 18, Baixos, Local 3, Barcelona).
For this first contact with the public, from the new collective they have organized different activities, among which there is a jam session, an exhibition, live painting, short film screening and a DJ set.
All in all, on a night they promise will be “unforgettable”, with all these artistic disciplines that will meet and mix: music, visual art, live painting and cinema, creating their first spontaneous “amalgam” of artists. They will do it with the main mission of creating a space for experimentation, collaboration and, above all, community, their raison d'être.
An open jam session
In the framework of this presentation night, Amalgama is preparing a jam session open to all musicians who wish to participate (musicians, singers, performers…). To do so, participants will have to fill out this form and on the day of the meeting bring their instrument, voice and energy. In addition, they will have a free ticket to enjoy the entire event.
For the general public, the entry will have a cost of 3 euros and can be paid in cash or through the platform Bizum.
Who is this new collective?
Amalgama is defined as a collective that wants to unite, precisely, different artistic practices: a group of friends who, with diverse passions, have united to give shape to this new Barcelona entity. They affirm that they want to make art more accessible to everyone. And they will do so through this first event that they will hold on April 25.
L’Occulta, the stage of its birth
In Raval there is, since 2020, a space that was born as a creative response to the uncertainty generated by the covid-19 pandemic and that now has been the chosen stage to see Amalgama born. In a context in which spaces for collaboration between artists were disappearing, they decided, as a collective formed exclusively by immigrants from the global south, to open a space that would foster dialogue, learning, and artistic expression in the heart of the neighborhood: L’Occulta. In 2023 they consolidated as a cooperative and in 2024 they carried out the reforms that have led them to their current consolidation. You can discover them here.
