The emerging company Las Ikas premieres at Sala Pangolí in Gràcia Desahuciadas, a play where comedy and drama intertwine. The actresses are Paola Rafi from Gràcia and Júlia Gallego from Sants. The show, which combines Catalan and Spanish, revolves around the story of Caty and Eli, two girls who share an apartment "that would not pass any health inspection, but which they pay for at the price of the Palace of Versailles," as the company says,
With thirty days left until they are evicted, they embark on the adventure of finding a new home. As they navigate between precariousness and gentrification, the walls of their vintage apartment decide to speak. Inside an old trunk in their house, a hundred-year-old diary appears, transporting them to the life of two sisters from 1929. The pages describe a historic rent strike, a fact that will prove to be a parallel connecting the two eras. Why do the pages seem to describe what is happening today? Is the diary a survival guide or a warning of history's fate? These are some of the questions posed by the actresses. "One month of contract. A lost diary. A hostile city," says the synopsis.
The play's costumes are by Luna Perez, lighting by Sylvia Axat, and sound and props by Pablo Aguilar.
The creation process
Sala Pangolí is located on Bailèn street, 194, in Gràcia. The play, however, was cooked up at the Creative Laboratory of Espai Jove Casa Sagnier, in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. It is a creation support space that accompanies young artists in transforming their ideas into real projects, offering resources, tools, and accompaniment so that creativity can grow and become visible.
The show lasts 60 minutes and takes place on Friday, July 17, Friday, July 24, Sunday, August 9, and Saturday, August 29. The performance is always at 6 PM and costs between 17 and 25 euros, depending on the type of ticket purchased. Check promotions here.
