The Purple Brigade of Santa Coloma de Gramenet organizes the next March 27 the first Flameta Festival, an event that will combine artistic performances by young people with the public presentation of Flameta, the new symbol of the youth feminist collective, at La CIBA.

The initiative is born with a clear objective: to reclaim the space of women in cultural settings and give voice to young people. “Festivals are often occupied by men. We want to reclaim the space of women and fill it with young people,” explains Mireia Olivares, member of the Purple Brigade. According to them, many times the concerns of young people are left out of decision-making spaces and cultural programming.

What will there be at the Flameta Party?

The event will have a mini-festival format with various performances, mainly musical, starring young artists. The program will open with the batucada of Santaquemola, followed by the intervention of Pau Pluja, who will recite a poem and perform two live portraits. The performance of the Barcelona duo Crying Cheetah is also planned, who will perform versions of songs from the 2000s, as well as a DJ set by pdejennys and rap by Marina. The party also includes participatory activities, such as a free workshop on "totebag" handbags, and stickers and merchandise from La Flameta will be distributed.

The celebration will serve above all to present Flameta, a figure created by the collective that symbolizes the feminist spirit of youth. The character represents a lilac-colored flame and is born with the will to become a kind of mascot for the movement. “The idea is that when you think of Flameta, you think of young people fighting for women's rights. This flame must be maintained,” explains Unai Tojero, project collaborator.

The necessity to reclaim feminism in the digital ecosystem

In a context in which anti-feminist discourses also circulate strongly on social media, the promoters of the initiative consider it essential to create positive youth role models. “It is important to occupy these spaces and show that young people continue to be feminists”, narrates Ana Delgado, one of the members of the Lilac Brigade.

The Lilac Brigade is a group of young people linked to La CIBA that promotes awareness and training activities in feminism, equality and diversity. The collective is open to any young person interested in participating, without entry filters, and combines social action with support spaces and community among its members.
