Catalonia needs more Catalan pop divas and who knows if Diana Murr, the alter ego of Mireia Morera (Sant Andreu, Barcelona 1998), could be one of them. Trained in musical interpretation at the Institut del Teatre, Morera has participated in reference productions such as 'Golfus de Roma'. Now, with the musical project she is starting, she wants to take Catalan pop-rock to a new horizon, combining music and performance. We talk with her months before her debut album, 'Destronada', is released, which has aesthetic pressure as its main theme.

How would you define yourself?

I am multifaceted. I have studied musical theater, but music has always been part of my life. As an artist, I am very attached to a discourse because when we perform everything we do is political, and that's why I take risks and think about generating art with which people can feel challenged. Especially if you perform in Barcelona, since we have so many stimuli that we need groundbreaking proposals.

How did you start?

I was born in Sant Andreu del Palomar, although I now live in Camp de l’Arpa del Clot. As a child, in the neighborhood, I did extracurricular activities in dance, music, and piano at Ateneu Obrer and Escola Bcn Fusió. Since I liked it so much, I studied musical theater at the Institut del Teatre. Since then, I have had quite a professional career as an actress, but I started with music, since when I was twenty years old I was part of Versión Imposible, a rock cover band.

Where have you performed?

The first thing I did was the musical Golfus de Roma, with which we performed in Barcelona, but also in Mérida and Madrid. Later, I did La filla del mar and I have been on tour around Catalonia with ARTEMIS, a show that is my final degree project at the Institut del Teatre and that I have created with my company, Gèminis.

Whom do you admire?

Especially artists like Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift or Rosalia, as they represent entrepreneurship and female power. All of them have strongly claimed their authorship with a very specific discourse, and have spoken about the problems of being a woman in the music industry. They are not just singers, but they develop a whole concept and that is what I have done with Destronada. Besides, I am a fan of classic rock and artists like Queen, Rod Stewart and Elton John. Regarding musical theatre, I like what Lin-Manuel Miranda does.

What is the scenario of your dreams?

I would love to perform at Palau Sant Jordi sometime in my life, but first it would be good to perform in concert halls in Barcelona and Catalonia. The idea now is to start doing concerts with Destronada. I want to prepare a live show full of dancers and offer a concert where people can release the tensions of everyday life and, above all, in Catalan, because we must reclaim the Catalan pop artist.
