Every April, the Molino square changes smell. The roses perfume the atmosphere, the books impregnate the hands of those who walk by, and Poble-sec, for one day, seems made of another paste. It is the unequivocal sign that Sant Jordi has arrived in the neighborhood.
On Thursday, April 23, fifteen associations and entities of the neighborhood will offer, from 9 in the morning until 8 in the evening, a book and rose fair with stalls, workshops, exhibitions and free activities for all ages. In addition, the square will be decorated with natural and artisanal roses (made of paper, fabric and recycled materials), by Detalls Florals de Sant Jordi.
The books will arrive from the hand of Llibreria Nu&Ca, which will bring all the editorial novelties of the Diada. BiblioMusiCineteca will offer new and second-hand ones, and CERHISEC will present a selection of history books of Poble-sec published by the entity, accompanied by an exhibition of old photographs of the neighborhood and of Paral·lel.
Activities for all ages
Regarding the workshops, the Coordinadora d'Entitats del Poble Sec will organize an origami workshop, with the participation of the users of the programs Espai de la Infància, Gresol Cultural, Pla d'Acollida, Acompanyament a la Gent Gran and Baixem al Carrer.
L'Agrupament Escolta i Guies Baden Powell will sell roses, bookmarks and books with Sant Jordi motifs made by the entity's own boys and girls, while the Centre Socioeducatiu Poble-sec (Fundació Pere Tarrés) will exhibit the roses and crafts made by the center's children.
Honduras y Amigos en Catalunya will energize a cultural and recreational space for all ages: on the one hand, there will be invited writers for the signing of copies, and on the other, face painting workshops and games for the little ones. Els Pintors i Pintores del Poble-sec will present an exhibition of paintings with natural techniques and materials around nature.
A Sant Jordi solidary
The day also has a solidarity aspect. AICEC-ADICAE will distribute free publications on consumer rights in areas such as housing, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, basic services (electricity, gas and water), revolving cards or cybersecurity. La Marea del Poble-sec will offer information of interest to the pensioner collective, and Sant Joan de Déu Serveis Socials will distribute solidarity products and roses. The newspaper Zona sec will make the free distribution of its monthly.
Among roses, books, workshops and exhibitions, fifteen neighborhood entities will make Poble-sec one of the places to experience the most local Sant Jordi of the city.
