The Sant Jordi festival goes much further beyond April 23. It is a celebration that fills this month to the brim and demonstrates that culture is not just an agenda of activities, but a way of living the municipality. Throughout Catalonia a collective narrative is drawn: that of a community that understands culture as a link between generations and neighborhoods.

Sant Joan Despí also participates in this philosophy and makes available libraries, civic centers and public spaces to host activities that range from literature to music, from critical thinking to popular culture, with a clear will to bring them closer to everyone. Under the name “La Primavera Cultural”, this initiative includes about sixty activities that extend until April 30.

The programming combines tradition and more contemporary proposals. Initiatives such as video game tournaments or the Night of Beasts, with dragons and fire shows, coexist with literary recitals or retrospective exhibitions. Also noteworthy is the role of the associative fabric and local creators, who have an active presence in the programming with activities such as the 26th short story award or the young art market. In this sense, the Cultural Spring becomes a platform for local talent to show itself and dialogue with the public.

This Thursday, finally, arrives the central moment that serves as an excuse to convert the month of April into a great literary and cultural festival: the Diada de Sant Jordi. During this day, the streets fill with books, roses and activities that invite to stroll, discover the municipality and, if you dare, to dance sardanes! But, as the program itself highlights, the spirit of Sant Jordi extends and permeates the whole spring.

It is for this very reason that the programming does not stop and prepares daily activities until the end of the month, such as wine tastings, podcast creation days, documentary screenings and races. Thus, Sant Joan Despí not only programs culture, but transforms streets, squares and facilities into open stages where creation, tradition and citizen participation meet.
